For better use in eCommerce the UPC/EAN/SKU should be part of the dataset as well as searchable as alias of product name. Model names are often inaccurate whereas UPC/EAN/SKU hitting the exact model and type. Its the most reliable identifier throughout the supply chain.

Do you mean that you prefer to search using UPC/EAN/SKU codes rather than the model name?

TechSpecs: The idea is to post the EAN to the/a Widget and get the device Infos back. That might be the easiest way to implement your service in product pages of any shop system. So, yes, UPC/EAN/SKU should be added to/as product property and included in global/fuzzy search.

Nico K: The latest batch of 56,000 laptops we added to our database already has an assigned EAN/UPC code. We plan to extend this to include more products in our database.
